The Watchman

While the world sleeps
A shadow is awake
Alone on the deserted roads
He spends sleepless nights
To give us a good night’s sleep.

Every man in work has company
But in his company he has none
Spending all by himself through the night
He stands strong alone.

He does a good job
But no one pays any heed
But, his absence would make
All feel his need.

Treacherous criminals on the prowl
But like a lion he growls
To scare away the wrong doers
And takes the night over.

Walking alone on the streets
Kicking an empty tin can
He is the savior of our possessions
He is the night watchman.
