ONE STEP BEHIND – My First Documentary Film

We took a journey through the lives of the rickshaw pullers of Delhi. Through this path less beaten, we felt what they felt,we felt their pain, anger hopes and desire. This led us to think about their life and their livelihood. One Step Behind is a small attempt to put a voice to the unheard voices of the people who have to struggle and endure unspeakable pains and agony only to be able to earn a small amount of money to sustain themselves and in order to help their family survive.

These people are the ones who are oppressed till today and if you think that slavery is banned...Think Again. These people are like slaves to the so called civilized India. In Delhi alone more than 50,000 people survive on the meagre earnings of the rickshaw pullers. It consists of the rickshaw pullers themselves and the other people associated wit the cycle rickshaw such as the mechanic etc. These people survive under conditions that are unacceptable human terms. They still sleep on the pavements under the open sky. During out conversation with the rickshaw pullers while making the documentary, we found that many of these rickshaw pullers have never seen a roof over their heads and to think that people in India are living in world class apartments.

Vision India : 2020. When India will become the third largest economy in the world. But what is the use of bragging about being the third largest eonomy when its own citizens struggle like animals to make their ends meet.

This film is to present the picture of how the other half lives in the country and how every one turns a blind eye towards them.
